How to Deactivate Google Voice Voicemail and Return to. I have been trying to get google voice off my phone for a. But if I activate GV voicemail all my. ZDNet around the globe. Go into Google Voice Settings and the Phones tab. Make sure you activate the mobile phone by giving Google. Then activate voicemail. For additional info look up Voicemail Instructions. Pixel™ XL, Phone by Google Verizon Wireless Home Phone LG G4™ Jetpack® MiFi® 7730L LG G5. Google Voice is the app, yes. There are two versions of Google Voice. Google Voice Lite is what I use (no Google voice number, I'm grandfathered in - essentially just for voicemail). Both Google voice and Google Voice lite use the Google voice app in the play Store, which I had and worked flawlessly until Cricket pushed their update. I've always used Google voice as my voicemail. Now, my voicemail is handled by Cricket because of their update, which I don't want. I want to use Google Voice as I always have for my voicemail (and should be able to according to Google). Ahh this is beyond me then because.Google Voice is its own app and doesn't deal with other providers. And again the google voice app only has voice mail for google voice. So maybe its just discontinued by Google and wont work anymore. Not because of Cricket. Cricket didn't update anything but their apps. There is no way they can change how voice mail works. Since Google Voice 'lite' doesn't exist anymore. I can only assume that Google is the cause of this and decided not to offer that feature anymore. I would probably contact Google on this one because it seems like a google issue. My grandfathered access isn't removed, but it seems that the functionality of doing the above is not working. You may be right that it might be on Google's end; however, Cricket could have also changed their *codes which could be why doing the dialer thing isn't working. I say that because it's the same process to revert back to Cricket (dial a *###) and Google voicemail will be deactivated and phone will revert to Cricket. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() But that also did not work (I thought deactivating and reactivating would fix it and it didn't). Cricket voicemail is working, and I have visual voicemail for it. But I'd really prefer Google's system due to the customizable greetings for specific contacts and groups. And stubborn. And dislike change. I am a Google Voice user for many years and currently using Cricket wireless. I have a dedicated Google voice number.so cannot say what your 'access Grandfathered' status might have to do with issues. For me, no problems.all works through Google Voice Voicemail.and never used Cricket Voice mail. Same like you, I am creature of habit and enjoy the way it (Google) handles voicemail of multiple numbers, and email notifications, etc. Google lately seems not to give much interest or support to Google Voice, and with adding Google Hangouts Dialer, which I use also, has complicated what used to be a seamless and easy to use system. I never noticed a forced Cricket Voicemail pushed to my phone.as I never used their voicemail. So sorry cannot be of much help there. Perhaps try this: uninstall Google Voice app and reinstall it, and when setting up Google Voice, choose Google Voice as your default Voicemail? When I signed up for Cricket as my provider with my new Axon 7 last November, I got a text inviting me to use their voice mail app. I replied and downloaded it and used it for a bit then bumped over to the native VM app on on the A7. About 2 months ago I switched back to the Cricket VM app and I love it. Very easy to use. I wouldn't blame this on Cricket so fast. Google seems to be changing things under the hood. Google Play Store has issues, Android Auto has issues and this VM issue also may be tied to Google also. If Google pulls their service(s) then it makes sense that the carriers will off theirs. Tried that, I get no popup asking to make it my default, and there's nothing in settings for it.
